    I don't know.

I've been assured on message boards the length and breadth of the internet that 'long covid' is a mockery, a psychosomatic sociopolitical disturbance of the innards, found mostly in liberal white women, an hysteria, the only cure for which is Twitterectomy.

    Maybe there's more to it.

People have been reporting symptoms that now get called "long covid" since the early cases. So I don't think the "I have been assured thing" is particularly useful on this.

The problem is that the level of knowledge about what is going on is really weak. Clinicians who have been treating it can't isolate it to who or why or how it affects certain people, but not others. It's unpredictable. It means that there are going to likely be a lot of people left with chronic diseases, likely due to underlying conditions that were already present, but for which covid created the vulnerability to the immune system that led to non-reversible or chronic conditions that exhibit symptoms rather than staying undetected.

People shouldn't turn this into a failure of some sort on the part of anyone. Covid didn't create chronic disease, and if we had a handle on all the chronic diseases that plague people, there would be a lot less suffering in the world. What I suspect is going on is that "long covid" isn't a single condition, it's an amalgamation of underlying conditions that have been exacerbated by the virus in certain people, and the reasons why are a giant, "It just depends." Which is why I am afraid there isn't going to be a single solution for everyone, and the things that provide any relief are going to end up being more about trial and error and luck, and there is going to be a lot of frustration among people who can't find any help. It's just reality.

The ne plus ultra are those who: 1) were debilitated from infections that mysteriously never resulted in a positive test result, yet; 2) made rapid recoveries mere hours after their first vaccination.

The volume of people reporting chronic fatigue, brain fog, and other lasting symptoms is way too great for it to be a bunch of fakers or people imagining things. To the extent those people exist, they don’t have anything to do with people who are really suffering from chronic conditions in the wake of Covid.

This virus is doing a number on certain people, leaving lasting effects.

    I'm not arguing, nor have I ever argued, that long-COVID ain't a thing. Twitterized long-COVID, now ...

I'm six or seven weeks out from Covid now, and I'm still dealing with fatigue and muscle aches. I played 18 last week, walking, and felt exhausted at the end. I've reffed 15 hockey games since the season started, and I've got nothing left at the end if I work more than one in a day, even when they're 10U and 12U games. On top of that, my legs ache after skating like I just got bagged. Hoping I'm feeling less fatigued and achy soon, but who knows...

I’m not gonna post the clap emojis here, but imagine the emphasis after each word: Twitter is a nightmare hellscape.

Got the new booster Saturday. Pretty much carbon copy of the other one… 12 hours afterward, some chills/sweats. Pretty much gone after a few hours. This one made me a little more tired with a mild headache. But tip top by Sunday evening.

My wife, again, little to no side effects. She might just be tougher than me.
