We're kicking the year off with a quick Leviticus challenge to help with refugee relocation.

When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.
You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you,
and you shall love him as yourself,
for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God

    (Leviticus 19: 33-34)

My silent partner will donate $200 and I will donate $200 to

    Immigration Assistance Archives

    and to

    https://www.hias.org/

    Match us!

I volunteer with a local refugee-resettlement organization affiliated with HIAS, so consider that donation matched via ESL classes, homework help and baby cuddling.

Our matching challenge begins for real at holiday time.

I went to to donate, then saw the challenge was only a "match us". I don't have the $200.00 to "match". I'll give my limited charity to a group that appreciates $100.00. I've been with you before but this need to put forth what you put in seems unnecessary.

Meant to be an enthusiastic exhortation to participate, not a dollar-for-dollar accounting instruction.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Every little bit helps!

    It’s all good.

Gave platelets and plasma again yesterday. 11th time this year.

I’m not asking anyone to match that. Just consider the Red Cross as an option.

Lots of ways to do good that don’t involve monetary donations.

Time is probably the biggest and most valuable thing we can all contribute.

Not to be a complete cynic, but...

Before you donate money, check out the nonprofit on Charity Navigator or Guidestar if it's big, community forums if it's local. Not all local outposts of national/international nonprofits get to keep their locally raised donations. Also, many of the big names spend a lot of the donations on marketing/advertising (and salaries).

Agreed. Your employer may match or give monetary compensation in recognition of volunteer efforts as well as cash contributions.
