My favorite mash-up: "Walk on the Wild Side" done in the style of Jerry Reed.

I'm back on a Lottery Winners kick. Just bangers all around, and perfect for a drive.

I will always thank my mom (gone 16 years now) for playing Elton John so often around the house when I was a kid.

I pity those who didn’t grow up with CBC Super Specials.

"What's Going On" - Marvin Gaye. The album. Still a masterpiece.

Well, yeah. Strongly suspect that was handscrawled lyrics by Bernie Taupin, to which Mr. Dwight adds the music. And how many people didn't really acknowledge how good this track was until the film "Almost Famous"?

That run of two albums a year for much of the '70s had some great stuff in it. Try telling the kids today that anyone dropped two albums a year for a while ... but it was in the contract.

Just finished listening to Elvis Costello's Kojack Variety. So good and yet even people who tell me they're fans either have it and never listen to it or they don't remember it.

Airport run to Albany X ... caught an excellent string of 1st Wave songs on drive back including one of the great Pretenders songs ...

Count me as a fan who has it, likes it but never, ever listens to it. Like most covers albums it's pretty hit-or-miss, but the best stuff on it is really good.

If you can find it, there's a two disc version with 20 other covers that have mostly appeared somewhere else. The versions of "Full Force Gale," "Brilliant Disguise" and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" are worth tracking down. (I've got the original one disc CD and that's the version on Spotify, but I've got a digital version of the extended album.)

The most recent concert I was supposed to see was White Reaper in a small club in early March 2020. Two weeks before the show, obviously, it was canceled and we all entered lockdown.

This week, the band dropped its new single and announced a new tour, and they'll be stopping in the same small club in March 2023. I'll buy my ticket tonight.

Also, I think I'll go by myself rather than try to rope a friend in to go. I've heard of others who say that's actually a great way to enjoy a show.
