Would be amazing if the Opens went back to qualifiers for everyone but that toothpaste ain't going back in the tube.

Interesting that the PGA Tour's four new "elevated" events for this season are Phoenix, Hilton Head, Wells Fargo and Travelers. As if Phoenix/Scottsdale could be any crazier over Super Bowl weekend. Hilton Head is odd but the Tour had to take care of RBC somehow and it was better to boost the RBC Heritage than the RBC Canadian the week before the U.S. Open. But all the top players will have to fly cross-country for the Travelers after the U.S. Open.

I've had a couple of cool one-on-ones this week for our podcast ... talked to Darren Clarke on Monday for about 15 minutes and Lanny Wadkins yesterday for about 20. Clarke only burned two lung darts during the interview, lol.

I know they'll be rotating those events, but interesting that two of them -- Hilton Head and Travelers -- are both after majors.

You can see Tour politics at work all over. Take care of RBC. Throw yet another bone to Quail Hollow. And take care of the Travelers, which punches above its weight as an event but never gets an A-plus field.

But yeah, over time every event will supposedly get a shot. As long as the sponsor pitches in.

On plane after 4 days at Pinehurst; as my buddy said, hard to believe it was real. Played 2, 4 &8. All fantastic courses. Great deal, full buffet breakfast and full off the menu dinner included with each night plus greens fee included!! Scenery is breathtaking. If you love golf, I can’t recommend anything better.

    Guy shoots -27. 64-65-64-64

Amateur who made the cut and then finished way up the track in Bermuda had what might be my favorite 72-hole box score ever: 71-64-85-65. Don't know if he had the six rum swizzles Friday night or Saturday night.
