Abrams and Beto are candidates this time around primarily because no other Democrats any Georgian or Texan had ever heard of wanted to run for those offices.

Have to agree with Alma here.

If I were to write this up for @doctorquant's "Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics" class, I'd say those statistics - while likely correct even with some missing data and interagency differences in measurement - have little to do with the assertion made in that tweet.

To wit, New Yorkers are falling prey to "fear mongering."

I don't know Austin politics, but Houston basically has one (1) officeholder that's seen as someone that might have appeal for statewide Texas offices. That would be Lina Hidalgo, the county judge for Harris County, who's in a dogfight of a contest this year just to retain that. Her opponent is receiving 4x the donations right now in an attempt to unseat her, and the race is in a statistical dead heat. Hidalgo has shot herself in the foot in at least two ways - she refused to debate Mealer, and members of her staff were indicted for essentially a conflict of interest in awarding a Covid relief contract, with speculation that she might get wrapped up in it too at some point. (The Texas AG who's under federal indictment is about to be re-elected for a second time, but that's different because he's a Republican.) If she ran against Abbott, he probably would have stomped her by 10 to 20 points.

Hillary was wrong - it's more than half the party. Whether you cheer it on, or look the other way. Bad is bad.

They won't phase it out; they'll precipitate a Shock Doctrine socioeconomic crisis and use it as an excuse to cut it off cold, with days or weeks notice. Probably by XO by God Emperor Fatfuck.

Happily, that'll bring people with guns into the streets.
