Another Elvis C record in my collection that never gets played is "Almost Blue." He did a decent job with "Honey Hush" but the rest is throwaway.

If we were on the Peak Music thread I'd make a case for "Get Happy," including this lovely waltz full of lyrical gameplay.

“Get Happy!!” is probably my favorite album by anyone. Total agreement here.

“Almost Blue” is ok. I like the Flying Burrito Brothers song and he does a decent job with “Good Year for the Roses.” If I’m going to listen to an Elvis album there are probably 20 others I will reach for first.

You should have been picked up by Child Protective Services for being forced to listen to that dreck.

I remember hearing "Your Song" on the radio in 1971 and thinking, "Rock n roll is dead."

... then you listen to the rest of the album. "Border Song" and "Sixty Years On" are reason enough to know the genre was just fine.

This one struck me as a collection of stuff he likes. The R&B qualifier seems like he had to hang something on it. Still, it sounds like a labor of love. Was this was one of those double-disc reissues that was released in the 90s? Spike and Brutal Youth were worth the trip to Best Buy at the time. This will be a fun search. Thank for the tip, mang.

It looks like it was the Rhino re-release in 2004.

Elvis Costello - Elvis Costello's Kojak Variety

For some reason the streaming services all seem to have the original one-disc version. If you can find this one it's worth it.

I’d like to offer a retroactive apology to David Bazan for not liking the album “Care” in 2017. I wanted another guitar-based album and he went electronic again. It’s revealed itself to me this year.
