Maribel Perez Wadsworth is leaving Gannett - Poynter

Not familiar with her. Though I am impressed that she started out as a reporter. Usually the only reporters who make it that high up the food chain have the same last names as the owners.

I think she was the person who cut-and-pasted Mike Reed statements into company-wide emails so old Mikey never had to actually communicate directly with employees. Professional grenade-diver-onner was her unofficial title I believe.

15 years now of saying "we will build a stronger business" as the business continues to weaken.

Y'all are something else. Mike Reed's holiday bonus has got to come from somewhere.

Nice to see he's begun to address the challenges.

Every time this happens, this dialogue runs through my head. It may be a bit of stretch to some, but it seems apropos to me anyway:
"You should have let yourself get killed a long time ago when you had the chance. See, you may be the biggest thing that ever hit this area, but you're still two-bit outlaws. I never met a soul more affable than you, Butch, or faster than the Kid, but you're still nothing but two-bit outlaws on the dodge. It's over, don't you get that? Your times is over and you're gonna die bloody, and all you can do is choose where."

Yeah, he mentioned the challenges but completely ignored the "headwinds."

The only good thing about that BS boilerplate is that the guy didn’t try to claim that these are “exciting times for our industry!” like some assclowns have done in the past.

"Our news cost base is too high for the revenue it generates."

Which Gannett's leadership caused by whacking reporters, closing newspapers and going to digital-only, thereby giving everyone an excuse to cancel their subscriptions and stop advertising.

I think that instead of Gannett saying "The News Cost Base is to High" they should just say"The Ship is Sinking Rapidly". What other conclusion can be drawn if they company is laying people only a couple of weeks off after the last round. I wonder if the company can make it until Christmas before they announce more layoffs.
