Trumpism has and always will be a part of the party, its a question if the establishment has the balls or power to stifle it enough not to blow elections. And the problem is, the Trumper part of the party, those still registered Rs are the ones who decide primaries.

And before you praise Oregon too much, realize that we had four state initiatives on the ballot.
One enshrined healthcare as a human right in the Oregon Constitution - passing with just 50.5 percent to 49.4
One banned slavery or involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime - passing with just 55.5 percent.
One banned legislators with 10 or more unexcused absences from floor votes from serving their subsequent term (anti-walkout bill) passed 68.2 percent
And an admittedly controversal "gun sense" bill (permit to purchase, mag limits) with critics on the left and right, still passing with 50.8 pct.

    But yeah, slavery and healthcare...

I hate Trump and everything he stands for. Once off the national stage, the country will be a better place.

That being said, what does the GOP do without all the extra voters he brought to the party? As a showman, we haven't seen anyone as good since Clinton and Reagan.

MAGA was just a continuation of Tea Party which was just a continuation of Contract On America, which was just a continuation of "The scariest words in the English language are 'I'm from the Government and I'm here to help' " etc etc. This is who the GOP has been for decades

Which was just a continuation of “Extremism in the defense of liberty is not a vice” from Goldwater.

When I lived here in the 80s Sumter County was a swamp
    Now it’s The Villages
It is there, and places like it, retirees move from the North and bring their prejudices with them
North Florida really isn’t Florida but it’s Florida they can afford

I do think you need to have a little "sumpin, sumpin" in order to get the white working class voters to vote against their interests. Tax cuts and a strong national defense and border really aren't enough. Resentment, fear of the other, goes a lont way. Shoot, it's amazing how far Trump got - not giving anything extra to WWC voters, just making sure the "others" didn't get anything and/or lost something.

What are their interests - from a policy standpoint? What should they be for?

Mostly good family-wage jobs, not screwing farmers over by ill-advised trade wars with China. If you can't give them that, give them a bogeyman to blame and hate instead of you.

They have some things in common:
    * Contempt of the fedruhl gubmint.
    * Contempt of education and expertise.
    * Corruption.
