    Pet peeve, not directed specifically at you. ... But, anyway, adding "white" as a modifier to "trash" implies that the root definition of "trash" in that context is nonwhite. Some journalism wordsmith made that style point a few decades ago, and it always stuck with me. A loaded term steeped in racism, as it were, but it continues in common use to this day, even in pop culture.

    The distinction the term was supposed to make had nothing to do with non whites, though. It was looking at just white people. ... and creating social classes inside that white population. The way the term used to get used was more of a white on white assault, where middle class or upper class people were using the term to distance themselves (via putting them down) from the poverty and lack of privilege of poor whites.

    "White" can be purely descriptive (for example, like the Euro in Eurotrash), and not be meant to imply anything about anyone EXCEPT white people. If I say that I bought a blue shirt, I am not necessarily trying to say anything (unsaid) about red shirts.
