A pretty good outcome. The narrower the GOP margin, the harder it will be for McCarthy or Stefanik or another toadstool sucker to pass muster for Speaker.

 

Mike Pence is done like dinner. He pissed off the Trumpers for obvious reasons, and he pissed off the anti-Trumpers by being his VP for 4 years.

Pence's thinking he has any viability in 2024 may be more delusional than Orange Julius. There is no needle that he can thread.

I've been reading a lot of Carl Sagan again recently, and a quote of his from 1995 really sticks out today (and not just because I like the word "bamboozle"):

"One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It is simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back."
