Good thing those folks in Tuscaloosa looked at Nick Saban with the same thoughts.

Matt Rhule never won the Big 12 and his only bowl win was over Vandy. Nick Saban was ... slightly more successful in college.

Saban also bailed on the Dolphins, not the other way around. I give him credit, he figured out the pros weren't for him -- although I imagine the Alabama check helped the realization.

If that's the standard, Nick Saban should have been a colossal failure at Alabama.

If Saban hadn't bailed on the Dolphins, though, they probably weren't far away from bailing on him. He just beat them to the punch.

Doctors’ evaluation of Drew Brees May have changed history.

Lou Holtz failed with the Jets before he returned to the college ranks and success. The NFL is a different critter. You don't recruit; your GM hands you your roster and you have to coach them up.

That's always been one of my favorite "What if?" scenarios in modern football history.
If Brees signs with the Dolphins, they probably improve enough to keep Saban around a while ... he misses his window to go to Alabama ... all of the coaches he spawned out of there don't get their chances at success or (mostly) failure in other places ... and there's a good chance the New Orleans Saints are now the San Antonio Saints.
The way that one injury and its aftermath changed the landscape of both college football and the NFL is staggering.

    Certainly that’s Saban’s spin.

Al Groh also flamed out with the Jets and then had some modest success after returning to college at Virginia.
