Trying to decide what I think, basically. Looks like Dilfer is a done deal. We'd heard there would be an announcement Friday, and the prep he coaches in Nashville plays for the championship on Thursday night.

Super Bowl QB with ESPN connections, good. Good prep coach at a high level, good. No college experience. Ugh.

Otoh, and the Tennessee contingent knows more about this than I do, but those private preps in Tenn. apparently do recruit, so...

We'd heard Skip Holtz and the fan base collectively puked, so Dilfer sounds better than some of the names going around. AD held the search very close, no one really knew squat. Things were starting to get testy.

On the whole I think it's a good hire, but we really don't know much about what he brings to the table scheme wise.

An outside the box hire for sure, but his team is #15 nationally and playing for a third straight championship.

I know I caught 2 TDs against Lipscomb in 3 games back in the day; at the time the school was a doormat.

From what I’ve observed, he’s built an incredible program that is now well-funded. He also has some big-time recruits on his team. Of course other coaches will use the video of him attacking one of his own players against him on the recruiting trail. But all in all I expect him to do very well there. A good get.

    That's assuming Colorado has a plan B.

    It does not.

I have an insider at CU who tells me the Illini DC is getting the gig.

That will definitely move the needle.

Ryan Walters (A) had a kick-ass defense this year (and an underrated one last year) at a place that is not overloaded with resources and (B) played for Colorado, so is a little less likely to go the Midnight Mel route if the school is willing to pay decent for results. Exactly what are Buffs fans holding out for here?

If you’re Deion, why go through all the hassle of interviewing for these jobs if they offer you, and you don’t do anything?

A bid in the FCS playoffs. I mean, yeah, it'd be a solid hire. It's not a "holy crap, great hire" move like, say, Fickell would have been. I don't see Deion as a fit. And yeah, Walters most likely wouldn't put a Midnight Mel.

Don't know where it started, but "Neon Deion" was our headline in Fort Lauderdale for the football special section story on him way back in 1988. Was wearing a ton of jewelry in the photo.

If they did, it would be after calling them a model program for cooperation.

They’ll just hit Missouri for another five years of scholarship losses.
