Bill Clark had a pretty good pipeline to the JUCO's, especially in Mississippi. That's part of why he won from the first year of The Return. We've gotten a couple of portal guys - our current backup QB is a four star from Baylor - but I think we're about to get a lot more. I'm starting to feel pretty good about this hire, unorthodox as it is. I may get quote crucified in a couple of years when Dilfer gets run off, but he's got an interesting skill set.

This is obviously not a neutral observer, but check this out. Thank you Trent Dilfer NFL experience on his coaching staff, increased diversity on the team, nutrition and more, at the high school level. Hell, I even like that he got Nike Jumpman unis for his team. We're with Under Armor now, but I bet that the team and recruits would like Jumpman, and we'd probably benefit from adding an association with Nike, both in sponsorship and scheduling.

I would add that today I followed a high school in another state that I had never heard of a couple of days ago. Lipscomb won the championship for their departing coach (and themselves, obviously, but they didn't lay down on him) 45-0 this morning.

I could see Dilfer leaning on the Herm Edwards Manual on How Not to Run a College Football Program. There might be some short-term success but if you're mostly disengaged with the Xs and Os, I don't see that as a recipe for long-term viability.

We are about to figure out how well liked he was among his fellow high school coaches. I think some of these guys get shocked making the jump to college when it turns out they need recruiting relationships with all these guys they disregarded along the way. Conversely there have been a couple of guys in Texas recently who made the jump fairly quickly (although not this suddenly) and are beloved by their former peers. Thinking of Jeff Traylor at UTSA and Joey McGuire at Texas Tech.

I think Dilfer will be the opposite of Herm on this. A bit biased as I've long enjoyed Dilfer's "teaching work" on ESPN/Rusillo pod on the QB position and how locker rooms operate.
