Liberty joins Conference USA next year and thus immediately has a path to the CFP that didn't exist as an independent. I'd love to see what Chadwell does with superior resources. I don't think people understand just how impressive it was taking Charleston Southern deep into the FCS playoffs. That school has nothing. It has a 4,000-seat stadium that would embarrass many high schools. The locker room is like a 10-minute walk away from the field. The school has no money. Yet he recruited to and won there. Coastal is better resource wise, but nowhere near what Liberty can offer. And the last coach just left for a P5 job, though I acknowledge the circumstances were strange (i.e. he had previously coached in the SEC). Liberty in CUSA vs. USF in the watered down AAC is pretty much a wash, in my mind.

They are never going to get credit for beating up a diet of Sam Houston State, MTSU, FIU, etc. with one or both of the Virginia ACC schools sprinkled in.

You are right that USF has more attractive future schedules.
2023 is weak -- at Western Kentucky, FAMU, Alabama at home (not weak, of course), at UConn
    2024 -- Louisville, at Alabama, N.C. State
2025 -- Boise State, at Florida, at Miami, San Jose State

Liberty's move into CUSA scuttled a lot of high-profile games because they had to get out of those contracts to accommodate the new conference dates.

Apparently one of the sticking points for some of these other jobs is that Chadwell wants to bring the entire Coastal staff with him, and some schools don't seem to be down with that.

I had to do a triple take at that schedule because I thought you meant Alabama State, or Alabama A&M.
Alabama is playing a true home-and-home with a G5 school? Holy schnikes!

One caveat: C-USA wasn't very good *before* the AAC took their six best funded athletic departments. Liberty may dominate the league, but that's not saying much.

Still, they could be the G5 with the most wins and make the 12 if their OOC passes the eye test.

And then the next four on the list left for the Sun Belt. Adding Liberty and the others was like giving C-USA a shot of Narcan. Its new form is essentially what the WAC was in its dying days as a somewhat relevant football league.

Fine with me if Jamey Chadwell goes to Liberty as long as he loses.
I suppose he has the requisite religious banter to go with his offensive flair.
I'm also guessing this represents enough of a pay bump to soothe the presumed wounds of being passed over time and again for Power 5 -- or even AAC -- gigs.
UAB just hired a guy with no college coaching experience. He had to notice that one.
I have always wondered about bit about how he has never recruited Power 5 talent before as a justification for passing him over. Lance Leipold never recruited Power 5 talent and he seems to be working out well at Kansas.
Is there something else with this guy? If so, what in an age of money-laundering NIL deals could that be? Absolutely nobody cares about cheating anymore.

If this is true I’m kind of stunned.

it’s such a terrible fit. They have to be giving him so much money he can’t turn it down

Can’t wait for the Kyle Whittingham trash talk press conference.
