I binged that one because it was a lot of OMG. WHAT. Highly recommend.

Is this podcast by New Hampshire NPT?

I have such a love/hate relationship to Ryen Russillo content. He’ll give 20 minutes I’ll nod along to and then some very weird peccadillo that annoys me so much I want to turn it off. It says more about my stupid mind than him, but I thought he worked so well with SVP because van Pelt could take the piss out of him with one sarcastic dig and Russillo would realize he was being pedantic or weird about something.

It’s also why Cousin Sal/Russillo work with Bill Simmons. Simmons needs someone to pop his balloon every 10 minutes and most of the Ringer writers seem scared to death of offending him.

(When you work on an assembly line 10 hours a night and listen to podcasts and audiobooks all 10 hours, you become weirdly obsessive at analyzing the dynamics of these things.)

Ha, no, I know what you mean. I don't even listen to the sports analysis from Russillo because I get enough of it from his appearances with Simmons, and because I don't find the "go solo for 20 minutes" all that interesting.

Simmons' tics are so bizarre. He can't end a list with 5 or 10 - it's always the top 7, the top 18, the bottom 13. He loves to complain about coverage of the MVP race being too early, but he's the one covering it, along with the four other Ringer NBA podcasts. (Hell, they ran a commercial for their NBA DRAFT coverage the other day!) He's in the Rick Reilly at ESPN phase of his career, but I still like the interplay between him and Sal, and the occasional guest.

Listening to it on a road trip.

It’s not “goofy” to over exaggerate how good it is.

If the podcast was fictional it would not work. The plot would be considered over the top.

I’m into the extras of season one and I’m loving how this is evolving into a different type of podcast.

I binged through 3.5 episodes today - Whew! Great so far. In general, these NPR podcasts really do move at a much better pace than the kind of amateur / hobbyist ones. (Wait, it's almost like reporting and journalism training matters here...!)

What I like is there are true heroes, like “goofy”, and true villains, like “Bob.”

"America's Untold Stories" ... I'm getting into these on YouTube. Mark Groubert moderated by Eric Hunley. They do some interesting stuff on the JFK assassination. (Spoiler alert: it's LBJ)
