Elon Musk takes over Twitter

BTW, the only thing that made this clown "the richest person in the world" was that his entire worth was wrapped up in a stock that has been the biggest beneficiary of the monetary-induced bubble that has been being blown for the last decade. It's mostly paper wealth based on a bubble stock. But as rates have risen a little, that bubble has been deflating (why you are seeing FTX, Carvana, Gamestop, cryptocurrency collapse stories). And his Tesla stock -- while still wildly overvalued because there is still a ton of liquidity sloshing around -- has lost something like 60 percent of its market cap since it peaked. Which brings his net worth down.

He's probably no longer the richest person in the world.

    Likewise.

    In fact, it's quite delightful.

Having said that however, it's also a genuine threat to democracy and common sense.

A democracy is as good as the people who have a say in it, and their vigilance in maintaining democratic institutions. To me, that is the constantly looming threat to democracy.

Twitter is just a communications platform. Even if it becomes a platform for nutjobs and conspiracy theorists if he steers it that way, the threat to democracy itself isn't Twitter. Anymore than a newspaper with an editorial bent you don't like is a threat to democracy, or a TV station is a threat to democracy, not even the soap box preacher screaming hateful things at people in Union Square is a threat to democracy. For me, those are the beneficiaries of a democracy. If there is a threat to democracy, it is people, when they buy into antidemocratic things.
