Tons of politicians have beliefs that follow such a "crazy" arc. They just don't have the courage to vote the way they really believe.

This isn’t about her courage. It’s about cash.

Sinema isn't the first politician from either party to do this at the state or federal level, but there honestly should be something on the books to prevent it during the middle of your term. If the voters of a state or district elected someone in good faith from a certain party, then that party should be represented. That wouldn't prevent the person from voting however they want on legislation, but it would at least give the customer the appearance of getting what they paid for.
There are laws preventing bait and switch advertising, and that should apply here, too.

The military can’t just disregard the NDAA.

Yeah, that can't be taken off the table. Not to mention she has mostly loved the attention ... as long as she can hide in a public bathroom stall when she doesn't want the attention.

I think that Sinema enjoyed her time in the spotlight, being wined and dined and seduced as a necessary vote. Now that the D's have 51 in the Senate her leverage was slipping away. So she goes independent, the D's have 50, and she's standing on a street corner under a bright light, her negotiable stance on full display. Both sides will hate her, but they'll both covet her vote, if only to keep the other party from having it.

That's going to be the hard part. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and for damn sure no one to play wingman and cover for her except as a manipulation play.

She'll be the new token Fox News "I didn't change, my party did!" the second she loses her primary, if not sooner. She's going full Tulsi.

Between Jill Stein and Sinema there’s been some weird activity from people who are/were in the Green Party.
