What is the best comic book movie?

I think I'd have to work The Suicide Squad somewhere in my Most Enjoyable top 10.

 

To me most enjoyable is synonymous with most rewatchable.

Ah. I see I've been Definition Loopholed. Well played, Longshanks.

 

That is especially true of the first one. Also, Raimi's style is cheesy. You can see certain shots in those movies and in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that look like something out of an Evil Dead movie. That isn't entirely a criticism. Just an observation of his style.

Dafoe's performance was too cheesy and the look of his costume also didn't help.

 

I didn't even realize History of Violence was based on a graphic novel, but it could certainly be in the discussion. I'm not a huge fan of American Splendor. I can appreciate it, so maybe it belongs on the high quality list, but I didn't find it enjoyable at all.

That's an interesting list. You can certainly where my interest in more mainstream comics influences my preferences. I might have put Road to Perdition higher.

Superman II is an interesting choice for No. 1. It is dated in some ways, but definitely rewatchable. They are absolutely right in what those first two movies did for the genre, especially with all the chaos involved in the production. It suffers for being a product of its time, and really, the origin of the modern superhero comic book movie doesn't lie there. There were movies here and there, but the current trend really trades back more to X-Men and Raimi's Spider-Man.

I stand by The Winter Soldier at the top of my quality list. I keep changing my mind about most enjoyable.

A History of Violence gets 4.9 stars out of 5.

 

Most enjoyable "section" of a Marvel movie - I frequently (once a month, every two months) watch the final hour of "Endgame." From the fight through to the funeral, man, it's just some good, cathartic shit. But wow, there's so much going on in that movie - I've never watched the two hours preceding that last hour again.

Start to finish, "Logan" is probably the best superhero movie to me, just edging out "The Dark Knight." It's not like "Logan" is a happy movie, but there's just enough light in it that I think it's better than TDK, or at least it is to me.

Most rewatchable, from start to finish, I probably go with "Guardians of the Galaxy." The soundtrack and the lighter tone helps.

 

So, where do Burton’s Batman flicks rank?

They were at or near the top of the pre-MCU list.

 

I still really like them, especially Batman Returns. But they don't really rate near the top anymore.
