    At this point I wonder:
    • If this is Putin, why he can’t get a little more creative with the causes of death. It’s a running joke at this point.
    • If this is Putin, why is he targeting these guys? A sausage guy on a trip to India is probably too busy counting his money or trying to pick up business to be a threat to the regime. I understood (obv didn’t approve) why he went after FSB agents and the like.

I was recently reminded of the Woody Allen movie Love and Death, about another Russian war
A man comes up to Woody, points at a dead soldier and says: “I knew that man. He was from my village. He was the village idiot.”
    Woody: “What’d you do, place?”

A pretty fascinating read, in The Atlantic, on the business of assassination in Russia. Apparently all these people falling out of windows and otherwise dying suddenly and seemingly inexplicably is nothing new.

    Sudden Russian Death Syndrome

The Atlantic has done a terrific job covering the Russian invasion of Ukraine and all its ramifications, and this story is just another part of it.

My teen daughter and I often paraphrase the chicken at Tretsky’s line to measure our disgust with something.

Me: how do you think you did on the test?
Her: you know the chicken at tretsky’s restaurant?
    Me: yes
    Her: it’s worse

my poor wife has no idea why we do it.

As usual, The War Zone has a good roundup of it by compiling a bunch of various sources. Seems the Ukrainians hit a barracks full of conscripts, located in a school building, which also contained an ammo cache and vehicle storage. The strike was conducted at exactly midnight on New Year's Eve.
The Ukrainians knew it was a prime target because of increased cellphone usage in the area, which Russian military bloggers are criticizing as a gross violation of operational security.

There's some other good stuff in this post as well, like a report that Russian bombers are trying to save wear and tear on their engines by taking off, flying a couple of circles around the airport, launching cruise missiles and then landing right away.
