NFL has nine, if you want to be super technical?

Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers (not counting Milwaukee games since they never technically moved there full-time), Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Bucs, New Orleans Saints (still called New Orleans home in spite of Katrina), Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans.

    How’d I do?

EDIT: Forgot the Panthers played at Clemson initially before their stadium in Charlotte was built.

I’m obviously missing some technicalities but have Jacksonville, Miami, Houston, Cleveland, Atlanta, Dallas, Minnesota, New Orleans, New York Giants, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Denver.

I have eight if you’re eliminating AFL to NFL franchises.

I recall Seattle, Tampa and maybe Carolina were moved around the NFC and AFC in their early days, if conferences are considered different leagues.

    close.
Packers started life as an independent team, so on my scale, they played in another league.

Vikings began life in the AFL, but switched to the NFL before playing a game. Their leaving, led to Oakland getting a franchise.

Am I missing the reason the Eagles aren’t on the list? Does the Steagles season officially count?

They are not on my list because of that. That doesn’t include the weird franchise swap they did with the Steelers. That was more clerical than what happened on the field.

The Eagles also kinda, sorta, descended from the Frankfort Yellowjackets, so that’s another reason I didn’t count them.

Cleveland, if you're including the whole history as belonging to version 2.0, played in the old AAFC in the 1950s.

Carolina switched divisions (along with a bunch of other teams) in the 2002 realignment, but was always an NFC team.
Tampa Bay was in the AFC West and Seattle was in the NFC West in 1976, before they switched conferences in 1977.

Carolina Panthers started in NFC West in 1995, went to NFC South in 2002, along with Atlanta and New Orleans.

I’m not including switching conferences or divisions because then no one would be in original. I looked at city switches, team name changes, started life not in the NFL.

And while I don’t think anyone would put the Rams on here because of their various relocations, it’s almost forgotten they started in one of the earlier AFLs from the 1930s.

The Rams, Cardinals, Raiders and Chargers have been responsible for 10 of the 13 NFL/AFL franchise relocations since 1946.
