That's too long for now, I'll try to give it a shot later.

Of course it's pointless. So are 99% of comments / social media posts that don't offend you.

Offer works and actions (or votes and money), PLUS thoughts and prayers.

Taken by themselves, T&Ps are little more than the proverbial VJOG.

What would you have had the average MNF viewer do last night?

    Maybe subjectively pointless.*

I would argue offering thoughts and prayers is also objectively pointless.

(*And why do you state "posts that don't offend you," are pointless? Posts that do offend you aren't pointless?)

Think and pray without advertising they're thinking and praying?

Donating to his toy charity drive is a nice bit of action. Even better if done without boasting about it (and there is a difference between those advertising his charity drive vs. boasting about donating to it).

Bitterly lament. Scold the NFL. Call for people to watch soccer, or the NBA. (I’m cynical.)

    Thoughts are great.

    Prayers are great.

The phrase "thoughts and prayers" is a near-perfect expression of insincerity.

That isn't nearly the same thing as some gutless politician offering thoughts and prayers in the wake of a mass shooting while at the same time fighting against any action that might actually do something about the problem. Come on. You know this.

Let me be more direct than Azrael. Fuck you. You know better, but you pull this trolling bullshit. At last, I think, Guy is coming at this from a sincere angle. I disagree with his take, but he deserves some benefit of the doubt. You? We all know better.

    That's why I choose "prayers and thoughts" ... #contrarian
