I covered a prep game that was 3 on 4 by the end of it. I wish I had written a better story about it.

Ha, wow, this is fascinating to see! Thanks for sharing. It is crazy how "effective" the team with 2 players is, all things considered. Oddly enough, the other "famous" story I know about teams playing short-handed was also from North Dakota, from Chuck Klosterman:

I thought of this piece too! Because I knew NDSCS was somehow involved but couldn't remember how. Was mildly disappointed when going back to it that they only hosted that tourney game but they weren't involved in it. Was hoping their men and women would have both had such a game.

I believe the officials should have some explaining to do.

That it is. I still wonder how you get out of a cycle of constant attrition and survival by transfer portal. It will be interesting to see if the AD makes the mistake that so many others have made: giving an extension and a raise -- for one decent year -- to a guy you were ready to fire.

Ten minutes in at the ESA, NCSU is up 20-2.

OK. But Wolfpack was up 16 in Coral Gables and lost. So … finish.

I see where N.C. State's radio guy Gary Hahn got a two-week slap on the wrist for his Sun Bowl/Illegals remark. That's embarrassing.

You sound surprised. Remember the politics. At other places, probably gone. But …

I didn't know it had a time limit. Initial announcement was "indefinitely." I really didn't think Gary Hahn had the backing in the Wolfpack Nation to survive something so telling. Never struck me as having the respect or gravitas that Woody Durham had with UNC folks or Bob Harris with Duke. But perhaps he was playing to his crowd. Or at the very least, they weren't particularly offended.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that last sentence.

They’re much more offended when NCSU loses to Duke or Chapel Hill. If you think that’s an exaggeration, ask Herb Sendek. Did everything else well and with class, and occasionally took down the blue schools. Yet, take a look at the way he was treated. It was stupid then. Fifteen years later, it looks even more stupid.

Wouldn’t be difficult to say that it was a throwaway joke that exploded in Hahn’s face. Now I didn’t say that was acceptable, but Hahn does not have a history of this - at least publicly - and they might well have read him the riot act in the boss’ office.

But … this two-week vacation is still a bit light. Embarrassing. As usual, maumann is correct.
