    It’s worse than that. The general public sees “Congress” as one entity. When they see disfunction, they then brand everyone with that label. It’s how JD Vance somehow is equal to Sherrod Brown in terms of effectiveness in the eyes of the average voter.

    Party division is now an election thing. Hatred of Congress is an every-waking-moment default. Like bad airplane jokes for bad stand-up comedians, the public defaults to “Those clowns in Congress did it again!”

    And then the people who think Congress never doing anything is the best outcome are happy as they continue to paint their train set universe as the civic bonds come unglued.

    Oh, come on. Hatred and mostly ridicule of Congress has been the default public position since the first one was sworn in in 1789. What's different now is that it has become the public position of very loud members of Congress themselves.
