I was listening to Steely Dan a few days ago (those silly things called CDs). "Don't Take Me Alive" is one of Steely Dan's best. "Third World Man" is another high my list.

I liked those because it's a deconstructed version. Without the vocal you can really hear Carlton's guitar lines. Interesting take on it.

Which I love. While I don't wish to automatically dismiss the lyrics, sometimes the music itself - the timbre, tempo and the interaction between instruments and how it comes across as a whole - is much more fascinating. The how, and in many cases, the why a riff, phrase - in the case of "Don't Take Me Alive," why that dissonant chord was added to the intro.

    Excellent. Thanks for sharing.

If I was within earshot of Manchester on that Sunday, I’d for sure take in the Foos and Mumford.

Curious to see what Pink Floyd is going to do for the 50th anniversary of Dark Side on 3/3.

    My guess:

Roger Waters: Speak about Dark Side for two minutes, then go on a political rant for 58 minutes of an hour-long interview.

David Gilmour: “It has some decent guitar work. Overall, I’d rather listen to Kate Bush albums.”

Nick Mason: “Anything that helps pay for my race cars …”
