Obviously, this is not over, but I love how the Republicans’ own law is being used against them.

Since they began to gain political power -- by opposing integration -- pseudo Christians have claimed a love of "Judeo-Christian beliefs" and "religious freedom." They have never believed in either tenet. They hate Jews and Muslims and all others who are not Christians. They crave power and exclusion.

    Yeah, that’ll be fun:

“Prove that I took the abortion pills.”

    “We have your online order.”

“Yes, I ordered them, but I changed my mind after praying to God and threw them out. Then I had some cramps, sat on the toilet and miscarried. And besides, why is my miscarriage any of your business?”

    Your move, Alabama.

They don't care. Dragging them into court, putting their name in the paper (if any still existed here), forcing her to take time off work and pay a lawyer. The cruelty is the point. Never mind that it's a heart wrenching decision in the first place.

That's been the game plan for 60 years, since the ascendancy of the John Birchers, the Wallace Dixiecrats, the Moral Majority, the Reagan Democrats, the Skokie Skinheads, the Michigan Militia and all the assembled gun nuts, RWNJs, etc etc.

They want to make liberals, progressives, POCs, women, feminists, peaceniks, tree huggers, vegetarians, kollege boy smarty pants,
Joos, pinkos and pretty much everybody else, uncomfortable. Nervous. Wary. Scared. Walking on eggshells. They want to shut everyone up by intimidation and fear.

It started out with abortion and fun control, fairly substantial issues. Now in the era of Fuck Your Feelings, it's spread to which cartoons you watch, which music you listen to, what cable tv you watch, whether you believe doctors or not, and also to which cartoon frog you make your avatar on the internet.

And these fuckers run the House and the SCOTUS.

It's like if the rednecks who run the "Dew Drop Inn" in Charlie Daniels' "Uneasy Rider" took over the whole country.

They might start caring after the first couple of times they lose at trial.

And if they don’t care then, then they might once they really start seeing the inevitable backlash against the evangelical movement.

The U.S. Maternal Health Divide: The Limited Maternal Health Services and Worse Outcomes of States Proposing New Abortion Restrictions

Key Findings and Conclusions: Compared to states where abortion is accessible, states that have banned, are planning to ban, or have otherwise restricted abortion have fewer maternity care providers; more maternity care “deserts”; higher rates of maternal mortality and infant death, especially among women of color; higher overall death rates for women of reproductive age; and greater racial inequities across their health care systems.

This is Alabama. The state lege dutifully passes a couple of pieces of legislation a year that evidently on the face of it violates some law or precedent. The new law will be taken to court, and the state will pay hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars (and lose) so that the jackasses in the lege can posture for the cameras. This is a routine fact of Alabama Republican politics.

And yes, I do expect the Republican party to take a beating in '24 because of their entire idiotic posture atm. Nationally. Not here, lord no.
