Saw The Magnificent Ambersons on TMC a few days ago. This is the 1942 film written and directed by Orson Welles that was famously taken away from him by the studio.

Based on its rep, I thought this was going to be some mangled wreck. But for me, it was.... perfectly fine. The editing is really choppy - especially towards the end - but it's not incoherent by any means. The acting is good, and for well under two hours of my life, I now have a piece of semi-classic American cinema under my belt.

Saw Pale Blue Eye on the big screen. Bale is great and it’s generally a treat for the eyes, but I just couldn’t get into it. It sort of took my back to watching the Dracula with Keanu, which isn’t a positive.

I saw The Menu tonight (with four other movie-goers in the theater). Really enjoyed it. It's the first food-related movie that I've seen in a long while. There may have been others, but I can't remember them. But, yeah, pretty good.

"Not As a Stranger," a 1955 film directed by Stanley Kramer and featuring Robert Mitchum and Olivia De Havilland, with roles also for Frank Sinatra and Harry Morgan.

The star power showed and the story, based on a book of the same name, was very good. Once I sat down to watch, I was engrossed, even though it was another old-time, black-and-white production.

“She Said” and it’s a quality addition to journalism movies.

I wanted to like Glass Onion more than I did. The characters were there, but - admittedly like the original - it lacked a big "a-ha" moment. Scenes needed better punctuation - that makes sense. It was kind of like a run on sentence.

I watched it today on Netflix. Bale's best performance as Batman, again with an unexpected Robin (maybe that should be Raven).

Bale could absolutely play the 55-ish grizzled old Batman, if they decide to do a straight movie takeoff of the Frank Miller continuity.

M3GAN was a lot of fun. It's a PG-13 horror movie, so the violence is not gory.

    Good story and cast.

There was a preview for a movie called Cocaine Bear. That's gotta be a classic, right?

"The Banchees of Inisherin," on Netflix. I swear I didn't recognize Colin Farrell until the closing credits. Strange but enthralling movie.

Went with my buddy and his 14 yr old kid. Yes very fun without much gore. Really wicked looking doll (maybe that's how all dolls look to me.) Tight story too, not too long.

Two streaming movies that couldn't be more different.

"The Swimmers" (Netflix): Very solid movie about two sisters whose swimming ability saves them, in a couple different ways. Based on a true story, it's a great reminder of the sacrifice and great danger faced by political refugees around the world. Recommended.

"Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" (Roku Channel): A big fan of Weird Al, I really wanted to like this movie. Instead, it seemed like it was three hours long rather than its actual time of an hour and a half. Not good.

Even realizing it's a parody of rock bio-pics, many of the jokes fell flat with an awkward THUD. Also, Rainn Wilson is just like Jon Hamm to me -- I can't see him as anything other than his long-running TV character.

Yes, there were some funny bits -- the pool party scene in particular -- but just watch old Weird-Al videos. You'll enjoy those much more.
