    OK, so what's Gerasimov's strategy?

Paul Krugman wrote a column where he pointed out that the NATO countries have a combined GNP of over 40 billion. Russia has a GNP of about four billion dollars. The NATO tanks can collectively come up with a dozen tanks here and another dozen there. Biden can add another billion or two of weapons occasionally. Does the Russian economy have the productive capacity to keep up? Ultimately that question will determine who wins the war.

I see they are bringing in the Ukrainian fire teams to train on the Patriot missile system here in the states.

    Good.

I don't care if Putie thinks it's an escalation. Let him try and do something about it.

Shrug. We just gave them Bradleys. That's TOW missiles, which are really a bigger deal than the air defense. Also, Russia just sacked the commander who was behind the "blow up all the civilian amenities" strategy. Perhaps the Rus will pull back on the power generation and civilian apartment attacks a bit.

Doubtful. It’s hit civilian targets but also advance. Or if you hit a civilian target, have an idea of what you’re going to do next.

U.S. military strategy in the 1990s favored "combined arms," where mech infantry and armor were combined as a force multiplier. No idea if Ukraine employs this concept, but that'll stretch the inventory of tanks quite a bit.

Right now, though, it sounds like the battle has devolved into trench warfare with close-in fights and not much open maneuver.

Air defense — the Patriots and whatever other anti-air systems they have — is a lot more useful than just knocking down enemy planes and helicopters. In this war, especially. They are very adept at shooting down cruise missiles and drones, which have become the primary aerial threats.
You have to take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to this stuff, but every time the Russians have sent a wave of missiles into Ukraine, the Ukrainians are claiming to have shot down a large percentage of them. Similarly, the Russians claim to have foiled several drone attacks against Sevastopol in the same manner.

Thread. She’s Rand, so give this whatever weight you think it deserves.
