Definitely agree. And looking at it some more, it seems like a really bad play call to begin with. The two options appear to be Osborn or Hockenson. The other receiver at the top (think it's Thielen) gets taken out of the play and Jefferson runs a deep go route that's basically a decoy intended to clear out the safeties. That leaves you either Osborn, who might have been covered, or Hockenson running short. On fourth-and-the season, you need to have a play with more options than that.
So in the end, it's the double whammy of a bad play call AND bad execution.

Hockessin basically posted up 5 yards from the sticks. Oooof.

I was wondering why Brian Ferentz was trending on Twitter.

yeah, they called and ran that play like it was fourth-and-8 in the second quarter of the third game of the season.

First, we can’t get any closeups of Maria if we’re going to be subjected to Simms II and the Clapper?

NBC has been so branded with Olympics for 30+ years that it’s clear they really don’t care about their other properties now.

For NFL, they were never really innovative in the modern era. They had the AFC package but never a Madden/Summerall as their top team. Their studio show was never Brent and Co. Then they went a decade (IIRC) without the NFL and came back with SNF. Strong property, highest rated show in the U.S. but it’s never… innovative. They signed Madden well past his prime. Even when their studio show had Dan Patrick, I never felt it was an interesting production. It’s just… there. Same with Notre Dame. I never watch unless they’re playing a Top 10 team in South Bend. Or about to lose to Marshall — and I’ll watch.

Now that ESPN has Buck/Aikman, that has the big game feel. They instantly launched Bristol to the largest overall vibe each week. Six years into Romo, it’s clear he doesn’t have a second pitch. He’s good and energetic but we’ve heard it all before — I don’t learn much about the game from him anymore.

In the 1980s, NBC’s baseball coverage was excellent. Saturday GOW and the Scully on the World Series/Costas reporting was so strong. In the 1990s, when they got the rights back after CBS, I liked the Costas/Olbermann vibe. NBA on NBC benefitted more from Jordan/6 Titles than anything else but at least the studio show was interesting — Costas, Vescey.

They simply “half ass” their sports properties now and they’re rarely must watch. Golf, hockey, ND football, all of their random skiing or skating that I’ll come across when flipping in the winter. They are doing their best to kill EPL in the US but relegating it elsewhere.

Even the SNF game is only a product of the teams. I’ve never watched less SNF than I have this year — of course, I’ll stick an Uncle Al game longer than I will with Tirico.

What’s everyone branding when you think of them?
CBS. The AFC, Madness, SEC (for now), Masters. That’s pretty solid, especially the AFC. Going on 25 straight years with a boring studio show.
FOX. NFC, MLB (a fading property), NASCAR, don’t really think about soccer on them but they did have WC. Big Ten football.
ABC. Whatever ESPN puts on them plus crappy ACC games.
ESPN. MNF. Less interesting NBA. Endless college football and basketball.
TNT. Really good NBA and about four baseball games in October.
FS1. Marquette and Butler playing each other 18 times a year.

I'll take catatonic Al Michaels over anyone else. Especially Tirico. My 2 cents.

NHL gets hash marks for ratings here. I guess it’s on.. ABC now for the finals? My last year in sports was the NHL lockout season 2004-05 and I never went back to it and I was an astute watcher for the previous 25 years.

That Progressive spot with the “you said you brought the life jackets” woman has given us the most unpleasant female currently in TV advertising.
