That would be the Old Testament of the climate change bible.

The Book of Greta is actually one of the Gospels in the New Testament.

How do you foresee this changing the stories you tell about climate and retooling infrastructure?

    Good question.

Rebecca has the advantage here, both as an essayist and an activist. She can lean into advocacy without much pushback from her bosses.

I think knucklehead journalists like me can learn to keep an open mind about the broader costs of fossil fuel, not just the price at the pump. What are the consequences of big ticket infrastructure change for that family in Kansas? What are the consequences of inaction?

As she suggests, one of the problems with presenting the true environmental costs of anything in the current moment is a failure of imagination. It's hard to picture things on a global scale certainly, but that's exactly what some of these stories require.

I'd love to see an environmental reporting prerequisite in J-schools, especially if you could spend a couple lectures on the deep historical benefits to humanity of internal combustion - offset by its true costs. Past and future and how to approach both with fairness and disinterest.

In my own work I try to understand people by sitting with them at their kitchen table - while keeping one eye on the bigger world outside.

Europe's new climate regulations have the perfect solution for those pesky non-pure blood EVs — stop them in their tracks. Or maybe just trigger a self-destruct sequence, or dispatch an ED-209 to tell them they have 10 seconds to comply.
