I’m never the type to dig gotcha journalism/videos, and cornering a guy at Breezewood or somewhere like that isn’t how I’d do it. The Blocks also have made this very public, though. One of those times where I have a little less empathy for the ambushed.

The union busting Pinkertons laugh at all this.

Right there in the headline for God and everybody to see:

Some damn journalists a couple of y’all turned out to be.

Works both ways. I read the news releases from the union and our local during negotiations and still have that editor's eye when something registers on the BS meter.

The News Guild is now calling out former members by name who crossed the picket line and got bonuses/raises. Including a few sportswriters.

Soon the list of people working will be longer than the list of people striking (if it hasn't happened already). It was that way from Day 1 in the sports department. Don't expect the union to publicize that.

In Detroit around half the Guild members crossed
Teamsters, mailers, printers, pressmen all were in single digits

I get the frustration on the guild's part, but public shaming ain't cool.

Some people have families. Some have to financially support those family members. Would I cross? Probably not. But they have the right to cross, whether the guild likes it or not. These are your colleagues you're flaming.

It’s been interesting watching the Post Gazette out-Trib the old Pittsburgh Tribune Review, all the way down to having a right wing, trust fund zealot as an owner. They just need a Pitt beat writer who wears PSU stuff to cover the team because he’s butt hurt he was put on the beat and they’ll be all set.

Can’t imagine ever working with someone who crosses and thinking of them as colleagues anymore. They are scabs who will gladly accept what others fight for. They have the right to cross, those actions will dictate how you’re treated afterwards.
