I stand corrected on the breathalyzer refusal issue.

Turns out the refusal penalty only applies after you’ve been arrested. If you haven’t been, you can refuse, but obviously with the caveat that you can still be arrested if the officer reasonably suspects you’re drunk.

It's a bargain $14.75 w/E-Z Pass. $12.75 w/E-Z Pass during off peak hours. Sometimes I celebrate by driving back and forth between Fort Lee and Manhattan.

The Express Lanes on the Capital Beltway have tolls for non-HOV drivers, and the amounts rise or fall depending on traffic volume. During rush hour, it can cost upwards of $25 to go the 8 miles from Tysons to Springfield.

And it’s worth every damn penny sometimes.

Just saw this. ... I've seen several stories about people using fake license plates on their cars to avoid being billed for tolls.

The train from Hoboken is 4 bucks.

And the GWB is free on foot or bicycle.

I walked the GWB. ... once. Just once. It freaked me the f' out. I am afraid of heights and the walking path is on the outer part of the bridge. The wind was whipping, and I was (irrationally) petrified that I was going to get blown over the side. I am still surprised I made it to Fort Lee. I was frozen (not cold, but afraid). Never again.

Agreed. Absolutely hair-raising. It's worse on a bike if you can believe it.

The radiant missus and I walk and ride all the bridges here pretty frequently though. The coziest of these now is the new bike lane on the Brooklyn Bridge.

The trick is, never look down

I wonder how many of the scofflaws with fake or obscured plates at the bridges and tunnels are firefighters and cops and other NYC employees commuting in to work.

I have no problem with the Brooklyn Bridge. Just being in the middle, instead of on the outside of the bridge, makes a huge difference for me. We walk it frequently. I can look down and I am fine. And totally agree, it's like a gazillion percent better now that they separated the bikes from the walkers. It still can get crowded with people (idiots!) walking painfully slowly or stopping to take pictures, but we just lower our shoulders when we need to. :)

The Manhattan Bridge obviously isn't as pretty, but I am somehow OK with it, even though the walking path is on the outside because of the fencing that goes so high. There is a behavioral psychology thesis in me and my ability to handle the various bridges.

I walked across and back on the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s a long damn way to the water.

Visit Charleston, and take a stroll across the Cooper River. There are even benches where you can sit for a while.
