My wife watches Los Angeles' ABC 7 local news, and I don't think they covered anything else yesterday. Wall to wall to wall coverage. Good Morning America and ABC's national evening anchor were in Monterey Park last night.

This shooting didn't happen in downtown LA, or Hermosa Beach or the Valley, or Beverly Hills. It happened in Monterey Park. While probably only 8-10 miles from downtown LA, it is a place that non-asians don't go/don't know anything about. It has a few bank processing centers and a bunch of asian restaurants. And it got all day coverage.

    Exactly.

Only to be interrupted by another California mass shooting.

Fox & Friends led Monday and Tuesday with their weatherman getting the shit beat out of him on the subway
After Biden’s documents they finally mentioned the shootings in the headlines about 15 minutes into the show

I’m glad it got all-day coverage. The guy worked hard. Maybe he can get a scholarship after all.

Three killed in early morning convenience store shooting in Yakima, Wash. Suspect remains at large … may be surrounded in nearby home.

And it still seemed downplayed to me.

Are we surprised it wasn't a white guy? Should we be?

I think the main difference, among many of them, was that 9/11 was actually an almost universally unifying event for Americans. And, I think that's largely why it was so impacting for the country.

It blows my mind that we cannot seem to get any sort of similar unity when it comes to guns, and gun-related attacks from within our borders. And it's why we can't solve the problem of mass shootings.

Update: Suspect shot himself, miles away from where police thought he was barricaded in a home. Motive for shooting unknown -- apparently, shooter was not trying to rob the convenience store. He just entered and killed two people inside, point-blank, as they were buying coffee/food. Then went outside and killed someone as they were getting out of their SUV. At 3:30 a.m.

Very, very lucky there wasn't more victims and mayhem. This guy was walking around Yakima for eight-plus hours after the shooting, still carrying the weapon and plenty of ammunition.

Police: No apparent motive in Yakima convenience store shooting that left 3 dead

The reporting described the shooter as soon as the description was known.

Again - not downplayed by any news outlet anywhere.

And no, we shouldn't be surprised - by anything.
