It feels like January 75th, not January 25th.

    Do I miss Michigan?
Not when it’s too fucking cold for the Winter Festival

Woke up to freezing mist, reports of accidents all over town. We're supposed to wind up with a quarter inch of ice by tomorrow morning. And another round of ice via freezing rain on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Freezing rain and ice is the worst thing winter has to offer. Stay safe. Supposed to be minus 8 here Saturday morning, but a dry cold beats ice every day of the week.

I'd trade for your weather. Quarter inch of ice equals likely power outages. We've got gas logs in the living room fireplace, but damn I wish I'd sprung for a whole-house generator years ago.

Subzero temps here this morning. Rare for this time of year.

It's weird how weather affects people. We've had an inordinately mild January here in New England, which doesn't mean nice, just that there was cold rain instead of snow. And it makes people uneasy, like they imagine winter storing up March surprises like it's a political campaign. The TV weather folks have been talking about the coming cold snap in terms of "at last, real winter weather." It may just be a reaction to 2015, when January was even warmer than this year and we got over 100 inches of snow in February.

Ended up minus-10 here this morning, tying a 38-year-old record.

We've got friends in Texas, and they're going eyeball to eyeball with an ice storm. Memories of the power grid cratering are still very fresh. I wish all who might be caught in one all the luck in the world.

If there's one thing this old Southern Boy knows, it's that there is nothing good about ice storms.

It took me nearly an hour to chip and scrape the ice off my Jeep this afternoon. Wasn't going anywhere, but I wanted to be ahead of the build up if I got an emergency call. Normally, I'd dread a 45-degree rainy day. Now I'm looking forward to it on Friday.

Three weeks out and they already know it's going to be too cold? Maybe they can cover the lost revenue by playing the Powerball.
