Gotcha. If your post was a line from Slap Shot I apologize. Went over my head.

And this is why they're the Sharks.

The Ducks' Trevor Zegras and the Coyotes' Troy Stecher had a dust-up last night. Zegras got a roughing penalty (or a cross-check) and a 10-minute misconduct. Stecher lost his freaking mind and seemed ready to take on the whole Ducks team. No penalty. I've never seen a player so demonstrative who wasn't penalized, but I am NOT criticizing the officiating since I didn't know what happened. I couldn't tell from my seats. Nor could I tell from the replay.

People are saying today that Zegras said, "I hope your dad is seeing this" and pointed upward. Stecher's dad died 2 years ago. Denials followed those reports. A reporter in Arizona tweeted that the Coyotes are saying Zegras did not mention Stecher's dad, but did cross the line with his comment. No comment from Stecher nor Zegras (the Ducks started their vacation today, which is linked to the All-Star break, and don't play again until Feb. 6).

One of the Ducks announcers was between the benches last night and said afterward that there was something on the ice. Players were picking up pieces. She thought it was neckware jewelry that Stecher was wearing. The pieces were on the ice near the benches, the scrum was next to the boards on the other side of the ice.

Actually I believe the Ducks have been on vacation since October.

I'll give Lamoriello this. If he was going to make that deal, he really had to make it like right now and not wait for the trade deadline, because with how stacked that conference and division looks, another 3 weeks and the Isles were probably going to be buried beyond any hope of playing catch up.

I thought the Isles' would be up there in the division this year, and I was wrong. I've seen them play a bunch of times this year, and I don't think I would have gone for it with what they have.

Canucks looking to the future. As much as I like JR - Jim Rutherford, not the poster who I consider more than a mere acquaintance - he seriously botched the mess that marked the end of Bruce Boudreau behind the bench. Horvat has to feel like he has been sprung from a crazy place.

Isles are teetering on the playoff line ... looking to be buyers - can't see Lou Lamoriello being part of any serious rebuild - but if they don't get the ship righted, they could well be sellers.

If the Isles falter, they could flip Horvat at the deadline.

I'm not sure how likely that is, but if it happen, do you think they would get something close to what they just gave up?

I guess it depends on how the market develops. I am usually bad at handicapping the returns players are going to get, so I am genuinely curious.

I’m not sure. It was discussed this morning on the radio as a possibility, not a likelihood. It would mean the Isles have slid and Horvat won’t sign a deal.

They would get a first rounder that likely would be lower. So the player and especially prospect attached would have to be significant.

Going to be an interesting race for the wild cards in the East. Basically everyone in the mix has some significant flaws. Caps really need to win in Columbus tonight to go into the ASB/bye week with 60 points, because Buffalo and Pittsburgh are right behind them with three games each in hand. Montreal and Columbus are really the only teams out of it.
