I'd love to have even one men's game a year at Carmichael the way State does with Reynolds, but it's too much revenue for them to give up.

Watching UNC-W&M play there in the 2010 NIT is one of my favorite experiences as a Carolina grad/fan. I think my ears were ringing for weeks.

As re: Carmichael ... My brother-in-law walked on at Davidson but never actually saw the floor (I'm not sure he ever put on a uniform), but his roommate still ranks fairly highly in some all-time statistical categories. The roommate loves to tell of playing the Heels in Carmichael, which was so cramped intimate that those on the bench could, if the mood struck 'em, pull at the leg hairs on opponents trying to make an inbounds pass.

In Piscataway, Rutgers' floor is named for C. Vivian Stringer.

Pretty sure that court is named for Frank McGuire.

Alabama beat Vandy tonight 101-44. That's a women's 1-16 first-round tournament mismatch, not an SEC game. Incredible.

Just got home. That is the most thorough ass kicking I have ever seen in person in basketball, possibly in any sport. The walk ons executed a lob dunk play. One team broke 100 and the under still hit. The Dores had more air balls than 3-pointers.

This seems absurd, but it isn't. The team leading the ACC standings is 18-5 overall, 10-2 in the league, 62nd in the NET and on the bubble.
Clemson's difficulty arises from wretched losses to South Carolina (No. 282, 1-8 in the past nine) and Loyola Chicago (No. 272, 1-9 in its past 10).
Last night's defeat at BC didn't help.
The Tigers have three regular-season Q1 games left. All are on the road. Of the other five games, four are at home and the other is at University-6. So they could easily be 24-8 overall, 15-5 in the league, in the top four of the final regular-season standings and with more work to do.
A friend reminded me that Notre Dame was sent to the play-in stage despite its 15-5 conference record last year.
The message from all of this seems clear: The harm caused by bad losses clearly exceeds the benefit gained from good wins.
I still have a hard time believing the committee will exclude a team with the aforementioned projected resume and conference affiliation. But what in the name of Gene Corrigan has happened here?

Maybe they shouldn't schedule 9 games in Q4 next year? And even then, they lost two of them. I can understand teams not wanting to schedule like John Chaney's Temple squads every year, but Clemson basically threw away games against the likes of Bellamire and Loyola (MD).

I don't think it's going to be much of an issue. "Clemsoning" is a word for a reason.

That said, this season, more than any other, is showing the limitations of the NET. See UConn losing 6 of their last 9 games and dropping all the way to...#8.

    That is a tremendous fact.
Ultimately, humans will make the decisions, and that may be to the Tigers' benefit. If they're 24-8 overall and 15-5, I really think they'd have to be in no matter what their NET ranking is. In a reasonable world, that is.
A year ago, Notre Dame proved its exile to Dayton after a 15-5 regular-season ACC record was pretty silly.

Another interesting tidbit is this ... If it goes exactly as you lay it out and Clemson winds up with a 15-5 ACC record ... that'll be four more ACC victories than the program's ever had.
