OK, I’ll bite. What is the benefit of keeping up this bit on this board? I agree it is a serious disease, but I think people’s reaction to it is pretty well baked in at this point, no?

    Not really a bit.

3 years along and more than more than 3500 US deaths this week?

Another 9/11 every 5 1/2 days coming out of the holidays seems newsworthy.

    And yet . . .

Certainly I would rather people didn’t die prematurely, but they do - from lots of causes. Not trying to be an “all diseases matter” guy but we don’t have a daily “downdownup” post on heart disease, or cancer, or even car crashes.

Part of the deal for granting extraordinary powers to government in a health emergency should be that it is, well, extraordinary. And I frankly don’t think it is good for the mental health of Joe Average to obsess about an endemic but now treatable disease.

I can't lower anyone's chance of cancer or heart disease or drunk drivers by simply wearing a mask.

If only there were a way where I didn't have to see new posts on this thread ...

    If only!

(I also don't think we're quite to the endemic stage yet.)

But in the interest of board peace, love and collegiality, I'll dial back the posts on this thread.

I’m not anybody’s boss here. I just think maybe we are at the point of diminishing returns. If the idea is to increase masking, a new strategy needs to be found.
