Meanwhile, flying way under the radar is a real run at one of those records that seemed untouchable — Pete Maravich's NCAA career record of 3,667 points.

Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis has 3,482 points after scoring 41 in a win against Green Bay on Saturday. He needs 185 in the last four regular-season games and whatever tournament games they play. Detroit Mercy is 11-16, so it seems unlikely he'll get more than one or two games in the conference tournament.
Davis is averaging 27.7 per game for the season and has 32 or more in each of the last four games. If Detroit Mercy only plays five more games, he needs to average 37 a game to pass Maravich. If they go all-in on feeding him the ball to get the record, it seems tough but doable.

FWIW, Davis is a fifth-year senior. Maravich set his record in three seasons because the NCAA didn't allow freshmen to play back then.

Two games in a row they're up by two WITH THEIR BEST FREE THROW SHOOTER ON THE LINE and he misses.

Today's was a miss and then a shot waved off anyway because of a lane violation.

Wednesday's was a freshman 5-star passing up a dunk before the best free throw shooter misses.

I thought "The cruelty is the point" was another thread.

Pete did it in 83 games. Only played 30 or more games in a season once (31 as a senior). Oh, and no 3-point shots.

The ACC then put out an incomprehensible statement. I think it suggested that the Beekman block was clean; that Beekman did not commit a foul; that Dunn fouled on the follow-through of an "airborne shooter"; that the game officials deemed the Dunn foul should not result in FTs because it came after the clock hit 0:00.0; that the game officials were wrong in that determination; and that they were wrong in that determination because they failed to recognize the rule that says a foul on a follow-through is still a foul even if committed after the time hits 0:00.0.
I think all of that is nonsense.
I think Beekman fouled him with 0.2 or 0.1 left. I do not know why the officials essentially used replay to rescind a common foul call. Rulebook says they can't use replay to rescind a common foul call.
Having said all that, I'll add this one: A 6-3 guy got his hand on a dunk attempt by a 7-footer. Fouled him in the process, but wow.

Kid should have been shooting free throws.

Once a year for about the next 25 years, those two coaches will shake hands at mid court in Charlottesville. Unsure if this ending will be topped.

The Lumberjacks have been on the wrong end of a lot of close games this year. They're 7-20 and 11 of the losses were by five points or less and four of them came by one point, including the earlier meeting with Portland State in Oregon, where the Vikings won a 3 at the buzzer. Crazy.

The Northern Arizona-Portland State deal has to be the ending of the year. And a tough one to top. I don't think I have ever seen a full-court pass with such little time -- 0.4 seconds -- left result in a catch-and-release, game-winning shot.

Pete also averaged 38.1 field goal attempts a GAME. Sports Reference doesn't seem to have a leaderboard for FGA per game, but his attempts per year (1022, 976, 1168) are probably nearly unassailable in modern basketball, even though they're playing more games. Dating back to 1985-86, there's one guy player (Kevin Bradshaw, U.S. International, 1990-91) that's even broken 800 FGA in a single year.

In that era, though, didn't players who were fouled get one shot on the first six, then a 1-and-1 afterward? So he didn't have the 3-point shot, but he got a lot of bonus FTs that aren't shot today.
