You are correct. The one-shot foul was eliminated beginning with the 1972-73 season -- the same year freshmen were made eligible. And he did attempt 1,152 free throws, which, according to SRCBB's records (which date back to 1986-86), is more than anyone other than Tyler Hansbrough (1,241), and made 893, which would be second to Hansbrough's 982.

That said, Maravich also made 1,387 field goals, 143 more than SRCBB's leader since 1985-86 (Lionel Simmons, 1,244).

I have never been impressed with Maravich's records. He was the son of the coach. While Maravich was very talented the focus of his college teams was to get Pete records. And it is no surprise that Antoine Davis's father is the coach of his team.

 

Maravich is 118th on the NBA all-time scoring list but No. 20 in PPG.
