You’d think Putin would mix it up, just for the variety. But, I suppose the message is that he can kill anyone he wants in a public and obvious way.

 

Now that Hersh’s story has been debunked by all sorts of credible people, we’ve moved on to “OK, even if Hersh was wrong he totally wasn’t.”



Heavy “I’m not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens” vibes.

 

Two things feeding the conspiracy theories:
1) Sadly, we've reached a point where we don't know what to believe and dismiss anymore. We're having the Pentagon come out and tell us, in a serious press conference, that we are not at war with aliens. Does a black ops operation that does an end run around Congress with plausible deniability for the president really seem that far-fetched right now?

2) If you believe that it's sabotage, who else has the capability to pull off a deep ocean demolition job like that? It's not exactly ragtag partisans with a satchel of C4 blowing up a soft target. It would've taken technical capabilities only a few countries in the world — maybe only one or two — possess.

 

Sy Hersh has done plenty of good work over the years, but so far as I know no one has produced a shred of evidence pointing to any possible guilty party. Both pipelines being hit says that it was not an accident, but beyond that we don't know.
