It's funny to me that the controversial play in football in 2023 is exactly how the entire game was played in 1893.

    Michael-

The domes are coming like the multi-purpose venues were coming in the '70s. The league nakedly wants to make money and protect spent money and messy surfaces aren't part of the plan.

Plus - Chicago (even in February) would be a really fun city for the Super Bowl.

Too cold. Too windy. Chicago winters suck.

If they build a dome, they'll get a Super Bowl. Detroit. Indy. Minneapolis.

They should be announcing two or three coming up this year. Wonder if Dallas/Arlington gets another one.

Does the NFL really care about how the weather may affect ancilary events around the SB? Aren't they most interested in how much the local organizing committee and governmnent will kick in for security and other logistical stuff to fatten the bottom line?

Yup, that's all that matters. Certainly the playing surface doesn't matter, as we saw last week. Have luxury boxes, luxury hotels and make sure the league doesn't have to pay for anything and you're good to go.

The trend for the last 25 years is to award cities that give franchise owners new stadiums with Super Bowls. Along with Detroit and Minneapolis, there were Jacksonville and LA. That will doubtless continue, so Chicago might well get a Bowl. But I don't think you'll see repeaters outside of LA, Miami, Vegas, New Orleans, Tampa and Houston. Phoenix is liable to be shuffled to the bottom of the deck after the field fiasco. Citizens of greater Boston can sleep easy. They'll never get a Super Bowl. The 25 miles from downtown to Gillette Stadium, and the fact that stadium will never be a dome, protects us. And after Chicago, I don't see many franchises with open air stadiums building domes. They're expensive and the political climate has shifted.

Oh, but Tennessee is horny as hell to do just that, and is bringing any local opposition to heel.
