I was thinking about this - the obits are coming almost on a daily basis. with boomers who hit big in the 60s and beyond. An interesting note - we know pop/rock music blew up in the late 50s early 60s, but it seems as if we almost skipped a generation. Many of the pop stars from the 30s and 4os (think Bing and Sinatra) enjoyed success in the 50s and beyond in part - I would think - because they were too old or had stateside gigs during the war. By the time the late 50s and 60s rolled around, you had a "gap" of pop singers who might have come along in the 40s, but were off fighting the war. So older singers enjoyed a longer run without a newer generation battling them on the charts.
By the time rock and roll hit, you had all these kids in their 20s climbing the charts like the Oklahoma land rush, since there were few established pop singers in the way - making the boom of rock even more pronounced.

World War II had a lot to do with that, as you note.

I’m only 38 and was thinking about how disorienting it is that Jeff Tweedy is 55 and Britt Daniel is 51. My mind cannot fathom that.

Keef will outlive every one of 'em, but Ringo will put up a fight.

Hell, both of the daily newspapers in Birmingham are dead. If you go into a Quick Mart here and there is a stack of newspapers for sale, it's the Tuscaloosa News.

A1 on Google News is extremely fleeting.

All four of my grandparents were born in the 1920s and therefore were of the generation that reached young adulthood during WWII. They've all passed now (Covid got the last one in 2020), but to my recollection not one of them gave a fig about music.

Is the new A1 trending on Twitter for an hour? Two hours?
