I'll see your post and raise you: Never even been on Twitter here, and I don't have Netflix, Instagram or Amazon Prime.

My college roommate didn't have a car, checking account or credit card in all four years of school. In one of my journalism classes I mentioned him and a classmate said he was going to write a feature on him for a class assignment. Which he did...without ever talking to my roomie. A Jayson Blair ahead of his time (he did not go into journalism).

I knew a guy in college who sold his car, quit his job and dropped out of school on the same day. He did a lot of acid.

What did he do then? Did he go back to college? What did he do with the rest of his life?

I had a college professor who said he dropped out (basically) stopped going to class when on acid and skiing in Colorado. He was on the Dean's List and I don't recall if the dean or the department head reached out to him and basically said you have one class left just finish this. He went back and got his degree.

He was a very good teacher and was very in-touch with students and what it was like. One of my favorite teachers I ever had.

I used traveler’s checks for cash in college instead of having s bank account or a credit card to protect against it being stolen or lost in the dorm. Even in 2003, the girl at the CVS in Athens, Ohio, had no idea what it was and had to ask her manager if it was real money.

A regular check today would probably blow a cashier's mind.

At the place where I work, we can’t accept them because our thermal printers can’t print on the backs of them.
