If I've got to run the risk of getting my insides scrambled? I might just sit on my $100M.

 

Why ITF would you draft a player that other teams KNOW you have to trade? That is the antithesis of getting the most value.

 

Because it's the Bears?

 

Well, I doubt they'll forget to pick in time.

 

If you've been worried about that, you probably haven't earned the $100M to begin with.

The Cards did something like this and once they picked Murray Rosen was worth what a 6th rounder? Fields is certainly far better than Rosen ever was but the same type of scenario arises, the other teams know that you've got to unload the incumbent and they'll just wait you out.

Why Anthony Richardson is a "can't miss" and Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant? I'm reading some reports and Richardson, who threw maybe 16 TDs last year at FLA is going to be a Top 10 pick. I didn't watch much of him but is it just history repeating itself where the GMs fall in love with the physical attributes and ignore the production or lack thereof in real games? I also read an article about how one test not the Wonderlic, tests a player's decision making/ability to process information and Purdy had a great score. Why is picking a QB so hard?

"Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder and his attorneys have demanded that fellow NFL franchise owners and the league indemnify him against future legal liability and costs if he sells the team, two people with direct knowledge of the NFL’s inner workings and the owners’ attitudes said.


Snyder’s demands, which include a threat to sue if the indemnification condition is not met, have angered some owners and renewed discussion about the possibility of taking a vote to remove him from ownership of the Commanders if he does not sell the franchise, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic and the legal threat.


“He wants indemnification if he sells,” one of those people said, adding that the owners regard the demand as “ridiculous” and “absurd” and believe Snyder should provide indemnification to the other owners for any legal claims that may arise from his and the team’s actions."

 

As far as I can tell, yes Richardson's raw ability has been extolled by scouts, specialist draft reporters, anonymous execs, etc., but all of them have acknowledged that even so, he's a big project who'll require time to become an NFL quarterback if he ever does. QBs (and other players) who are seen that way get the benefit of the doubt because it's assumed they can be coached/mentored into channeling the raw ability into tremendous production. Some can, some of course can't. There's no denying that while his overall 2022 season was not good, Richardson was amazing in some games, notably against Utah.
It's a copycat league as they say. The success of Josh Allen has and will lead teams to see raw talent as more desirable than a QB like Purdy who is seen, rightly or wrongly, as having maximized his talent and hit his ceiling in college. Case in point. Purdy's employer didn't just use the third pick in the draft to get Trey Lance, who's played like three games in four years, they traded up to do it.

 

I admit that I wanted the 49ers to take Lance, not Fields or heaven forbid Jones after they traded up to 3rd because I thought he had not only great physical tools but also the smarts to pair with that talent. With Purdy, its like hitting the lottery.
