After years of Jesse Puljujarvi going to about 72 different teams for about 300 different possible players. ... that is pretty damned anticlimactic. But his stock had fallen pretty far.

Kane to the Rangers for a conditional 4th and a conditional 2nd that could rise to a 1st. PHX jumped in to help, apparently.

Kane would only waive his NTC to go to the Rangers, so the haul is pretty modest.

Yup. I understand why Drury had to do it. He made it clear they weren't giving up their other first (the one they didn't give up in the Tarasenko deal) and that Brennan Othmann and Will Cuyle and pretty much any other prospect of even modest value was off limits. But Chicago had the choice of take what they could get or do nothing, and the Rangers are getting him for below what he should have fetched.

I am not 100 percent convinced this is going to be good for the Rangers, but I am hoping. I see that -23 +/- for Kane this year, and I don't know how much of is due to him playing for a crummy team and probably going through the motions.

But they don't need a forward who plays no defense going into the playoffs. Presumably because of his history with Panarin, it will be:

    Kreider Mika Tarasenko
    Panarin Trocheck Kane
    Lafreniere Chytil Kaako
    Vesey Motte Goodrow

It looks beautiful on paper, but Panarin can be suspect defensively (when the intensity ratched up in the playoffs last year he disappeared in a lot of games) and if Kane is another defensive liability, it doesn't make me feel that good. I hope I am just being alarmist. It's probably not helped that I have always been suspicious of Kane's character since those rape allegations, even if it wasn't pursued.

It's not a bad thing in a case like this. They have the cap room and the going rate for being a banker has been a fourth or a fifth round pick. If that is the deal, it's basically a pick in return for nothing that is going to affect them going forward.

Caps continue to break it down, trading Johansson to Minnesota and Gustafsson to Toronto.

Apparently, the idea of a reunion with a fellow Finn is the hope to unlock what is supposed to be some talent.
