I went with Rutschman. As you noted, he’s probably going to be an advantage player at his position. OF is more easily replaced and, not for nothing, I traded for him last year and I want to get a return on that move.

Volpe may make me regret it, but I think Bregman and Rutschman will treat me well.

In an old, strange league with 10 straight keepers each year - no matter how they were acquired. I bolded anyone I thought could be a possibility, and counted the 7 that I'm thinking are good picks for the present and future. After that, choosing between the now (Scherzer, Degrom) and the future (Volpe, Cruz, Alvarez) has me second guessing myself. Thoughts? Anyone else I should be considering?

I agree with your seven. I would probably keep Cruz just because he has the great upside and a starting job for this season. Alvarez and Volpe could end up spending time in AAA.

Maybe Scherzer and Lodolo for the remaning two spots.

Maybe do a mix between guys who can help now and future? Do you have any spots where you can stash someone if they’re in the minors?

No stash, but as you can see, large rosters, especially considering it's just a starting lineup. So if I keep Bichette, Otani and Cruz, Cruz is not really different than Volpe in that he only plays when one of the other 2 are off. OTOH, years ago I burned myself because I was so frustrated having 3 excellent SSs and no good 2bs I foolishly traded a rookie Tatis for Matt Carpenter.

Large rosters, but no middle infield spot in the starting lineup? That's frustrating.

Then I’ll echo what OOP said. Besides, you know Cruz will get playing time while Volpe is in a MI crowd with the Yankees.

Lodolo over degrom or volpe? Or Smith?

Never know with pitchers and their health. Smith at least you know will give you some pop at the catcher position.

    Very.
It's just an odd league. I think I joined a 3-4 year old private league that has an opening through someone here. I was really successful early, and then let my team get old and mediocre. We've been playing for more than 10 years. No talk on the chat. The same teams each year are totally absentee, but I guess they show up enough to re-register; occasional, bizarre, lopsided trades that make you wonder if someone is controlling multiple teams. Just strange. I basically stay for some combination of inertia and not wanting to quit when I'm not any good.

You didn't have Smith in bold, so I assumed you weren't going to keep him. I would keep Lodolo over Volpe because you know the former is going to be in the majors this year and he has already shown he can be successful. deGrom is a tough call, but I would probably cut him loose. He just can't stay healthy.

I get that. I'd have probably quit by now, especially if there are shady trades.
