Update: overnight flight from Dulles to Heathrow, maybe a dozen people in masks? Flight was way fuller than a similar one I took last March. Tube ride from the airport to Old Street, maybe one in six were masking. The majority of the world seems over it but as always I respect whatever choice is best for you.

Also random, but I hadn’t flown since November and you no longer have to remove your belt or take anything out of your bag (laptop, etc) at security. Just your shoes. Made getting through it a breeze. Welcome change.

Watching the Japan-China game this morning in the WBC from Tokyo, looked like the vast majority in the stands were wearing masks.

    They probably were in 2017, too. And 2013, and 2009 . . .

    Exactly.

The huge cities in Asia have always masked.

The real surprise is that cities in the West, like London and New York, etc. - with the exception of their Asian neighborhoods - have not.

The Chinatowns in Lower Manhattan and out in Queens are just as masky today as they were before Covid.

There is an Asian couple in my neighborhood who've been masked on their daily walks for as long as I have seen them. They are outdoors with no one within earshot, let alone transmission distance. It's obviously a lifelong habit.

We went to an Asian grocery store near us in early 2020, before the lockdowns cam in. Everyone was masked. That was when I knew we were in for something.

Late to the party here, but factor in the thousands who couldn't get medical care because hospitals and doctors offices were overwhelmed by covid patients.

They were in great demand a year ago, yet at the store we're not selling masks OR covid tests. Been sending people who ask to the Rite-Aid in the same shopping center.

I still mask, as do a lot of our long-time workers. But nearly all the teens we've hired of late do not.
