    Saw Des Moines as a first-round host city and was puzzled, since I can't remember them being in the rotation before and didn't think they'd have an arena big enough.
    Apparently they have a modern 17,000-seat building. Who knew?

    I think they built it to try and get the Islanders in the late '90s. (Not true but Iowa Islanders is amusing)

    Clearly the chemistry issues are very real if they don't even want to take a crack at the NIT. It's kind of a thing that Carolina has never won a post-season NIT, largely because they haven't had a lot of opportunities.

    Didn't Georgia Tech decline an NIT bid some time in the recent past?

    You're right. I denounce myself. I should've checked. I remember people in Chapel Hill being strangely excited when they made the run to the 2010 NIT final and lost. In my addled memory it was because they never had won, but I guess it was just because it had been so long.
