    Do federal child labor laws not address some of these things? It’s a state issue whether a 14 year old works in the middle of the night at a meat packing plant?

    Maybe substitute in a Central American migrant child. ... and you might be onto something.

    The cold reality is: there are no jobs to be had in Central America. Here, for the last 2+ years, there has been almost 2 unskilled labor jobs available for every worker ready to step into them.

    Our country's aversion to just letting immigrants come in, which would have fed workers to businesses that can't find them, is actually fueling child labor, because you have smugglers getting migrant children here, who are filling those jobs (don't ask, don't tell) on the hope that they can earn money to send back home to Central America, where economically everyone is suffering.

    Doesn't that happen all the time? Some third string offensive tackle gets in trouble and you can invariable find a headline referring to him as a star.
