The largest police presence in NYC I have seen in the past 10 years was around the Garden for the MTV awards. Automatic weapons and everything. I suspect this mobilization is 15 percent precautionary and 85 percent "overtime, baby!"

The good news is that all of that overtime pay has contributed to a ton of Dunkin' Donuts business. ... and there has been a surge of basements being finished on Staten Island. So if we reimagine it as a job creation program, I am sure it's very economically productive.

Easiest safety precaution the city could take today against rowdy Trumpist protest would be to shut down the Staten Island ferry.

I'm glad YOU said it, instead of me.

    But you made me smile.

You have to admit. ... this has the potential to turn into a skeevatz vs. skeevatz event. ... at least half of them will be being paid overtime for being there, so there's that.

FWIW, we were talking about Trump being arrested over the weekend (we were walking by the DA's office / courthouse) and I personally liked the idea of a Mexican-American being the cop who fingerprints and books him. I speculated that there is something like 20 percent of the group of detectives who might be chosen -- with names like Garcia and Rodriguez -- who have volunteered to work that shift.

Leaving aside the fact that crime is down and NYC is safer than a lot of places (typical GOP dog whistles about “urban” areas), where is the evidence of the crimes which aren’t being prosecuted because of the Trump grand jury?

No longer do we live and die by stats.

Twain said something to that effect too, I think.

“The use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of Donald Trump has been approved.”
