Pepperdine had a rubber floor in the '80s. Basketball players hated it, volleyball players liked it.
They said the water table below the gym was so high that a hardwood floor would warp. Malibu had lots drainage pipes coming out of the cliffs on the east side of PCH to reduce the water table and help prevent landslides. When the floor wore out they went with hardwood.

The Robins Center had a tartan court when it opened. So did the two intramural gyms in the same building we played on every day. It did take a toll on your legs.

Has he not seen the ESPN website for, oh, the past two decades?

If an event is broadcast exclusively on ESPN, it’s the main story on their website.

Outkick is a pile of hate.
A few years ago, Dan Dakick had a pretty nice post-coaching career going, doing games on TV and talk radio in Indy. Then he began showing his true self, and it's not good. As a result, he is reduced to a niche website owned by Fox and pandering to Trumpists.

    Profitable, though.

My mom was a huge Pistol Pete fan and told me all about him growing up. I do think the 3-point shot is overrated as a scoring enhancement, though. On average it might have added 2 or 3 points a game when you translate it from pre-arc to post-arc. Dudes aren't making 10 treys a game.

The only time you saw a perimeter shooter before the rule went into effect was when a team went zone and you brought the zone-buster off the bench. Zone-busters weren't typically starters.

Without looking at stats, I'd guess it also encouraged more high-percentage shots in the lane that scorers like Maravich could make, as well as get them to the free throw line more often. Like you said, the dead-eye 3-point shooters who can consistently pad their average by making those shots are few and far between.

Zone defenses were banned in the NBA right up until the 2000 season, in fact. It was relaxed after the 3-point arc came into effect in 1979 by allowing defenders to sag.

It's the NIT. Oregon strikes me as a big enough program that the fan base probably doesn't give a shit about watching a 15-loss team play in the minor league of tournaments.
